| Long-awaited America 24/7 book series now in stores |
|
|
OCTOBER 7, 2004 — Back in May, 2003, I was fortunate to be one of 1,000 U.S. professional
photographers contracted to chronicle an ordinary
American week for a new
book series, America
24-7. A team of editors has selected images from
two million submissions to be included in
53 large-format books being produced by DK Publishing, and I have several photographs published in the California state book. The America
24/7 project includes a national volume (published in November, 2003) and these new |
|
 |
|
volumes for each U.S. state (plus New York City and Washington, D.C.), which were released September 20, 2004. A TV documentary, print and Web site exhibitions |
|
|
| also are in production. The ambitious project was conceived by Rick Smolan and David Elliot Cohen, creators of one of the
most popular still photography projects ever, A Day in the Life
of America. In
addition to the professional shooters,
the America
24/7 creators used modern digital
technology to enable the public to submit images via the Internet. Some 25,000 people responded, making it the
largest collaborative photo project in history. Previously, I had worked as an editor on three books
in the publisher's Day in the
Life series. For this project, I photographed
rural California in the northern Sacramento
Valley and Sierra Nevada foothills. |

TECH: Secure vehicle storage for photographers |
|
SEPTEMBER 1, 2004 — TruckVault
of Sedro Wooley, Washington, creates now-you-see-it,
now-you-dont equipment storage systems with
false floors and locking drawers for the cargo spaces
of sport utility vehicles, light trucks, vans and
even the trunks of some sedans. It may be the most
essential accessory a traveling digital photographer
should carry. See my review of this product.

Signed, limited edition digital prints available
Some historic and fine art works in the photographer's archives soon will be available as signed, limited edition prints. George Wedding's photographic prints are created using digital printmaking techniques and modern inkjet printers. Special clay-coated, heavy weight, acid-free watercolor papers and pigmented inks ensure that color prints last 75 years or more — the highest standards in the industry. Grayscale prints last even longer. And with limited edition status, your investment will only increase in value over time.
